APPLICATION (EL NYSA)

THE CHARACTER

Character Name: Sol Badguy
Series: Guilty Gear (Xrd)
Canon Point: Post-Revelator, After Story A - As he's heading to the Kiske home to meet with Ky.
Character Age: About 180+ years old. His exact age is undefined. Physically looks like a man in his late 20s or early-to-mid 30s.

Background: Quick link to Sol Badguy's History on the Guilty Gear Wiki. Additional summary provided below due to the Wiki's unreliability.

A copy of the in-game timeline is also available here; just as a disclaimer, I'm the one who wrote it and it's missing some world-relevant information (because it's trimmed based on relevance to a different character).
Sol was a young scientist named Frederick who joined his friends in completing their Gear Cell theories by 2014. Although the research was meant to eliminate diseases and improve healthcare, other nations were more interested in military applications. During this time, Frederick also learned his colleague and lover, Aria, was dying from an incurable disease.

Though distraught by the news, the team continued their research. In 2016, Frederick was genetically restructured against his will to become the first prototype Gear. After escaping the labs, he created a Gear Cell suppressor (his headband) to maintain a human form.

The Gear Project continued in the U.S. with a more militaristic purpose. Frederick made it a personal mission to destroy these weaponized Gears. When a Commander Gear, Justice, rebelled against her masters and waged war against mankind in 2074, Sol spent years attempting to find and stop her. He eventually joined the Sacred Order of Holy Knights in 2172, stole a weapon he created, and then defeated Justice alone. Afterwards, the other knights sealed her away and ended the war in 2175.

Justice's seal weakened in 2180. A tournament was held to find fighters to beat her again. Sol participated and completely destroyed her (Guilty Gear). In 2181, fears about Dizzy, Justice's daughter, spread. Sol found her and spared her life after realizing she meant no harm (Guilty Gear X). She found safety with sky pirates and Sol's rival, Ky Kiske (Guilty Gear X2). Ky and Dizzy eventually had a son and asked Sol to help raise and hide their part-Gear child in 2183. In 2187, Sol defeated another Gear army (Guilty Gear 2), retrieved another weapon he created (Guilty Gear Vastedge), and helped capture another Gear (Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN).

After capturing the Gear, he and Ky discovered a plot to reshape humankind by reviving Justice and fusing with her will. After stopping those plans, it was later revealed that another individual, manipulating events in the background, planned to do the same. Sol and his crew fought to save one of their own while trying to identify the new enemy (Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator). After discovering many truths, including the revelation that Justice was actually Aria, Sol managed to beat the enemy and save mankind again.

Sometime after their big battle, Sol goes to visit the Kiske household to have a "talk" with his rival (Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2).
Personality:
Sol is an asshole. There's no other way to describe it. He was irritable and standoffish when he was human, and his experiences as a Gear have only exaggerated those traits as he distanced himself from others over the years. He doesn't mince words, openly expressing irritation or displeasure with little regards to anyone's feelings. If you're being stupid, he'll call you stupid. If you suck at fighting, he'll say you suck at fighting. Combined with his muscular build, his harsh words and abrasive behavior make him an intimidating figure to speak to.

On top of that, his way of solving problems is just as blunt and straightforward as he is. If left to his own devices, Sol will try fixing everything with a good, strong punch. A wall blocking the way? Punch a hole in it. Need to retrieve a weapon from a shady organization? Punch a hole in their building and then punch a hole in their faces. Need to subdue a violent Gear? Punch, punch, punch. It's a simple and lazy way of resolving issues, which often draws the ire of other people. He either behaves like a brute or acts like it's far too much effort to do anything but the easiest solutions. This extends to the way he speaks as well; he usually talks in short sentences or gives simple, abridged answers to complicated questions. Essentially, his brutish exterior completely covers up any hint of his researcher background. Sol is shown to be capable of more thoughtful calculations and reasoning when he really needs to, but it's still part of a past that hurts him and, therefore, he doesn't like acting on it.

Sol also tends to be aloof because people are curious creatures and will eventually start asking questions about himself. This is his most hated topic. He doesn't willingly touch his past, and very specifically avoids or outright threatens people for approaching the topic when it happens. People are warned not to "push their luck" — any further than that, and he'll start swinging. His closed-off behavior about himself is partially a result of the betrayals he felt when his friend turned him into a Gear and when their research resulted in the decimation of the global human population. Additionally, his own violent Gear nature is also a constant concern of his. It only serves to distance himself further from others.

Despite his harsh words, behavior, and personality, his actions also show a very caring side that he can't completely hide. He consistently protects humans and fights incredible battles because he cares about preventing deaths. He spares kindhearted individuals like Dizzy who only want to live peaceful lives. He cares for and raises Sin, Ky and Dizzy's son, like his own because he actually cares about the boy's well-being. (Even if he tends to raise the kid using lazy and questionable parenting skills.) He puts forth a lot of effort to save their friend, Elphelt, and reunite everyone as a family. He'll never admit out loud that he cares about these people or empathizes with someone, but his actions will always speak louder than words.

Although he's more relaxed around the people he's closest to — a trait he had even as a human — his empathy also extends to strangers. He won't have kind words to offer, as usual, but he'll punch a hole in a wall for them if it'll help.

Recent canon developments have also softened him up to others in general. In Revelator, Sol has described his life as something like this: The more he's tried to figure out his own little world, the more these other people have started butting into it and disturbing it. They were like fireworks disturbing his peaceful sky. But having them around reminded him he wasn't alone, and that made him realize he wouldn't want to miss the fireworks for anything.
Powers/Abilities: Just as a heads up, Sol is a stupidly overpowered character. Not blow-planets-up tier, but he's definitely at a level that can cause damage. I'll address this in the power nerfing section, but please feel free to contact me if more needs to be done to make him suitable for the game.
Fighting AbilityAn list of his regular, non-magical fighting skills. Sol is something of a brawler despite his use of a sword. Actually, he uses the sword more like a bludgeon, wielding and abusing it carelessly. His physical strength is enhanced by his Gear cells, which are expanded upon below.

Fire MagicA list of his fire-related fighting skills. Sol's specialty is fire magic, which he uses to roast people, food, and other things that need a good roasting. His Gear cells make his fire reach very explosive and potent levels when he needs to.

Magic Theory Knowledge ♦ As an ex-researcher, Sol is quite smart and clever about crafting new magical techniques when he wants. He created the Sacred Treasures, the Fireseal and Thunderseal, as weapons that amplify the user's ability to take down Gears. Another example is his creation of the Firewheel Mk. II — a displacement motorcycle he developed by fiddling with a magic technique that allows the user to materialize objects. Basically, he taught himself how to summon a motorcycle from thin air. (Please see the power nerfing section below, I am definitely getting rid of this ability.)

Inhuman Strength ♦ Gear cells enhance Sol's strength to a level more than a human's. He has been shown to take down giant Gears on his own and punch out enormous sections of a collapsing stone ceiling away from people. He can also endure riding a giant rocket-bullet shooting through the sky at incredible speeds.

Recovery ♦ Gear cells also enhance his healing ability by speeding it up. This does not make him unkillable. In fact, his life is still threatened if the enemy's power is great enough. (Like if a ship turned its magic/laser cannons on him.) On that note, he has endured stabbings and shootings thanks to his healing.

Dragon Install ♦ One very Sol-specific ability is his Dragon Install. It's an ability that overrides his Gear cell suppressor (limiter) to transform into a Gear state. In this short-lived, temporary state, his speed, power, endurance, and magic energy increases. He does not use this skill often.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): As stated earlier, Sol's strength is ridiculous and implied to be immense, although even Sol has yet to understand his full potential. His own lack of understanding generally prevents him from doing anything more than possibly putting a sizeable hole in the ground if he wanted to. If you'd like me to limit that further, just let me know.

Additionally, although the characters don't ICly know this, magic in the Guilty Gear series greatly depends on the existence of the Backyard — a sort of 'dimension' or 'world' that determines the creation of all in-universe things and magic. I'd like to use this as a reason to get rid of his ability to manifest any items (like the motorcycle). If the mods would like to limit Sol's abilities even further, I can absolutely use his separation from the Backyard as a reason for the lessened magic power.

If his fire, recovery speed, and Dragon Install abilities conflicts with AC rewards, I'm definitely willing to greatly nerf that as well. I'm flexible about the possibility of doing a sort of power loss/regain arc for him while in the game. Please let me know what the mod team is most comfortable with!

Inventory: His blunt 'sword' — the Junkyard Dog. It's a weapon that contains the Fireseal within itself. When activated, the Fireseal can amplify Sol's magic fifteenfold from what we've seen so far. I'm planning on nerfing the amplifying ability, though I'm also willing to get rid of it completely because I know it's ridiculous on top of all the other stuff he has, lol.

Incentives: The safety of his friends/loved ones is a huge incentive and possibly the only incentive that can carry any real weight with him. This applies to the characters Dizzy, Ky Kiske, Sin Kiske, Aria (Jack-O' Valentine), Elphelt Valentine, and Ramlethal Valentine.

Preventing any of the other sacred treasures he created from falling into nefarious hands would be a good incentive as well. If they could be given to him, even better.

Ability regains can be another (somewhat smaller) incentive if we go that route for him in the game.
